TAKING GARY VEE'S ADVICE FOR ONE YEAR

Before we get into all of this, let me explain my reasoning for this project. I was once a really big fan of Gary Vee, back when I first started reselling his content was in the background every time I was working on listings. Then I got older, kind of got punched in the teeth by life and his content and vision really showed to be unrealistic. Granted, some of his advice isn't bad. But, it's the sh*t you already know you're f*cking up on and he never really accounts for luck. Life takes a lot of luck. My opinions of Gary are very similar to Hasan's take in this video. Gary is kind of fucking crazy. And I'm not even going to touch on his personal life because, sheesh.

A Youth Pastor for Capitalism

I've seen several people call Gary Vee the youth pastor of capitalism; and yes, he is. I love this title for him, because it's accurate. That's what every "hustle" guru is and that's how they really make their money. Hustle your life away and bend the truth to your fans.

Yes, in his Trash Talk videos those "sold" items aren't actually sold. You can tell if you're familiar with eBay. I also find it curious he only shows the sourcing end of reselling, rather than the actual work of listing and shipping. As a reseller this is a bit frustrating because saying to list 500 individual Hot Wheels and making $1 each is unrealistic for normal ass people. I currently work 40+ hours a week. I've had to stop meager listing sc

hedule just to save my own mental health.

Now, you're probably like "you said you're going to hustle like vee but you're worried about your mental health??" Um, yeah. I'm not a very wealthy man with employees to do all my "listing". I'm a full time, broke as a joke, working wife.

However, I have an insane goal come next year. I'm wanting to invest in real estate come this time next year. I'm looking at building generational wealth. Me and Cody aren't from money by any means. Neither of our parents actually own their own home. I want to change that for our future kids.

Turning Bad Advice into Good Advice

Gary's claims are high. In his first episode of Trash Talk he claims you could make $1k a week by "just working Saturday". That unfortunately isn't how sh*t works. You can't always source and list in the same day. You also have to ship throughout the week. That's borderline work, I understand that shipping really doesn't take long. When you're working 40+ hours though, those 15 minutes are valuable.

Working 40+ hours is what I want to stop, though. I no longer want to work so many hours for a company when I could be working that for me. So, I guess I have to deal with the suck for a bit. The suck being Gary's insane advice.

So, here's how I'm going to do it.

  • Cross list on eBay, Mercari, FaceBook Marketplace, and Poshmark.

  • List large amounts on my day off; 50, 60, 70, items a day.

  • Go sourcing at least once a week.

  • List it all. High value items and low value items.

  • Keep a very clear spreadsheet coupled with a strict schedule.

  • Keep accountability with weekly updates here on the blog.

The start date for all of this is September 25th. I'll be starting the weeks on Sundays and ending them on Saturdays. Let's get it.

See you October 1st.
